T minus a day and a bit
October 24, 2009
Today is Saturday. Saturday 24 October, 2009.
This date makes both of us break out in a cocktail of mass hysteria, mad grins, and sheer panic. Yesterday saw both of us leave the office for the last time this year, and with our departure date just 2 short sleeps away (short being the operative) today’s been full of teary goodbyes (oh oh Eam and Jai and Terry we will miss you sooo), followed by impulse shopping, and PACKING. Post the impulse shopping trip, the packing started badly.

And this was just El’s pile. How this was ever going to fit in one backpack was anyone’s guess. However, some things were always going to be on the shortlist, no matter what:

El gives a big shout out here to the wonderful ACFEA girls for the present – pure genius! Thanks also for the chocolate penguins. They are now nestled somewhere in between the imodium and the malarone, very cosy, alongside a STOCKING in a 6-year-old’s sock from my mum for Christmas Day. Mum you are completely awesome. X
Amazingly, everything in the pile fit into the backpack, even convincingly, and El got very excited. The backpack verged towards heavy (Pops, this one’s for you)

After some deliberation over who was going to pack what from the ‘it’s OURS rather than MINE’ pile, we were both as packed and prepared as we would ever be, and decided the moment was a little on the epic side and deserved a camera timer cutesy couple photo.

And with that, we leave you!
We’ll be updating this blog as often as we can, and we’re aiming to upload an entry and a photo for every day of the trip. Absolutely no idea how often this will be – keep us bookmarked! South America is a fair few miles away, and it will always be heartwarming to hear from you whenever you have a chance to write :)
Love to you all xx
